A Quiet Place to Land: The Story of La Palomita
Not every stay in Austin is meant to be an event. Some are meant to be a return … to quieter mornings, slower evenings, and a more grounded way of moving through the city. La Palomita Austin was created for that kind of experience.
La Palomita Austin is A Different Kind of Stay
When I first came across this property, it was the location that stayed with me. You’re close to everything … downtown is just a short walk or ride … but you don’t feel pulled into it. There’s a quietness here that’s hard to find in Austin, and I wanted to preserve that.
The building itself, the Miriam Residences, has its own history. It sits alongside the Governor’s Mansion and was named in honor of Miriam Ferguson. There’s a sense that this part of the city has been lived in for some time, and not just passed through.
Designing the Space
With the intention of giving guests a quiet place to land as they visit Austin, I wanted to make sure I didn’t overdesign the space. There’s always a time and place for that. But here at La Palomita, I wanted to focus on creating a place that was warm, soft, and inviting.
Here you’ll find a bed you can really rest in, blackout curtains that allow you to sleep deeply, and materials that feel warm, not sterile. You’ll notice there’s a bit of Spanish influence, but it’s subtle. It shows up in the tones and textures more than anything obvious.
My goal wasn’t to create a themed rental, or a look, but a feeling of comfort.
My Hope for Your Stay at La Palomita
La Palomita is designed to fit the way you want to experience Austin—whether you’re here for a weekend, a full week, or something a little longer. Our guests are working in the mornings, taking walks at Pease Park in the middle of the day, and then exploring Austin in the evenings. However long you’re here, though, La Palomita is a soft place to land between it all.
I hope that La Palomita will give you a place to rest, to focus, and to experience Austin in a way that feels a little more like your own.
